Msn alternative?

Post  EAF.Klaus on Tue Feb 05, 2013 4:00 pm

Well most of us know that Microsoft are being twits and closing MSN down so they can focus on some other shit. MSN has been our main way of communicating outside of VCMP for years and I haven't come across another program quite like it. We'll all need to find a good alternative to switch to since not everyone uses social networks like FB and such so does anyone have any ideas?

I guess the best thing to do is follow MSN and go with Skype..
But since it causes lag while playing most games, I would suggest TS/Ventrilo or this MSN-clone called aMSN. Check.
Trying aMSN out right now, will post feedback ASAP. Smile

I tried Skype and didn't much like it. TS is good for chatting but not everyone has a mic.

Tried out aMSN. Looks great from my point of view, looks like the usual MSN a lot, you don't have to create a new account as you can use your old MSN account.
Also reads messages you receive from Skype-users.
A picture:

I guess I will use this since I can't download MSN messenger anymore. Smile

Xfire is one, dunno if trillian is still working. Skype is optimal but can cause lag and be quite confusing.

Already thought somebody was gonna mention this..
Change the look of the MSN browser by downloading one of those skins. Smile

EDIT: Hmm, takes a lot of shit to put the skin in Razz

My dad used to use it several years back, it's kinda like MSN but alot 'smoother' and easier to use. I have no idea if the program is still up tho'. Chatting as a group I don't recall exactly if it was possible but meh, I was around 10-12 back then lol

tbh my favorite is steam since I can add every game to my library and chat with people while playing single player fallout for example, but I know we ain't gonna force anyone to use it lol so I guess we should give aMSN a try if it supports groups (since Pidgin doesn't, used it before)

You could also try Raidcall.
Doesn't use a lot of memory (around 30-40 MB's), but it looks more like TeamSpeak rip-off than MSN though Rolling Eyes

If were looking for a way to stay connected socially, weather it be In-Game or Real Life, I recommend the Facebook Group, seeing as we already have people there. Of course this is just an Idea, I\m not to sure if all of us have Facebook, and it's not like it would be hard for me to pass Admin Rights around.

Also there is X-Fire, which is a Multi-Purpose Gaming Tool and could come in handy for some of you considering you can take photos, record videos of your Game, Broadcast to the Internet Live, In & Out of Game Chat. You guys should check it out.

TBH xfire's broadcasting sucks. You can only do at 360p which is worse than bad quality. 2nd of all it's message system sucks with groups.

Since I, for some f**king reason, installed win XP, I have trillian in the tests. If it supports the MSN groupchat then I ain't even touching MSN anymore, but use trillian instead. You can also create new group chat in trillian AFAIK from 1min looking, but dunno if it's permanent like MSN's.

EDIT: Doesn't seem to support (Sorrow & Marcell both online, but no group chat for me Sad)

EDIT #2: Trillian info

Trillian is IMO what we should be going for.

VERY good group chat system (permanent group too), very easy to use and has _ALL_ of your MSN contacts if you combine ur MSN acco with it.

Trillian download
